On the back of a terrible run of form, with 4 defeats in the last 5 games, Flecthing went into this game keen to play the kind of football displayed earlier in the season. The return fixture was mired in controversy and some bloodshed following a massive brawl resulting in the stop of play. There was to be no violence in this relatively mild game, which turned into a comfortable win for Fletching.
Fletching started brightly and confidently, and this showed when Pete finished a perfectly floated free-kick from Martin, with a deft header beyond the keeper. But Fletching faded during the first half and allowed Lewes to equalise after a mix-up in the box. The second half saw an improvement in Flecthings efforts and they were rewarded with 4 unanswered goals 2 a piece from Pete, to complete a phenomenal 5th hat-trick of the season, and supersub Pearce, who is well good. A fine defensive performance snuffed out any chances Lewes created and going forward the midfield and attack were able to exploit the space to good effect.
Pete made it 2 - 1 mid way through the second half with an excellent finish and further goals followed. As the fifth went in, Pearce decided to celebrate by throwing the ball petulently in someones face.
A good all-round performance gave Fletching some belief back and showed the type of football they are able to play, giving grounds for optimism for next season.
