With Fletching needing maximum points to maintain their push for promotion, Old Varndeanians
provided a stern test for the Archers on a windy Falmer pitch. Without ever playing to their full
potential, Fletching took the lead midway through the first half from Ross, capatalising after a
bad keeper error.
The lead didn't last for long however, as some guy scored for Varndeanians. From the resulting kick off,
the ball was given away cheaply and the opposition player allowed to carry the ball all the way to the Fletching area before clipping a lob
almost as if he meant it, finding the top corner.
Into the second half, Fletching went further behind before finding some fight to pull one back through
Wolvey, with a fine finish from a few centimetres after good work from Chris Hyland.
Ross completed the comeback shortly after. Fletching were now pushing for all 3 points
but were stunned to concede a 4th from a headed goal after poor marking. As some fans made for
the exit to avoid traffic, it looked as though Fletching would leave empty handed until unlikely saviour Mark Hill
popped up from the sett to hammer in an equaliser with the last kick of the game. The players and remaining fans were
jubilant - it felt like a victory. Fletching will be looking to return to winning ways next week against Handcross.
