Fletching 1 - 4 Willingdon Athletic 2nd    11th April 2005

With all reasonable hopes of promotion gone, Flecthing were left to fight for pride against Willingdon "100%" Athletic, and attempt to maintain their unbeaten home record at the Fortress (Fletching rec).

Willingdon certainly looked the part and were well prepared for an evening kick off with some impressive warm-ups, which included passing the ball around in a circle while 3 men in the middle had to try and win the ball back. Another routine had 2 lines of players exchanging first time passes to each other. In conjunction with muscle stretches and simultaneous jogs across the pitch (including side-stepping) this was surely one of the most complete work-outs seen in the Midsussex league this season, leaving Fletching's players in no doubt as to the kind of team they were up against.

As the match got underway, Fletching fought for every ball against the league leaders and were matching them for posession through much of the first half. The Willingdon quality soon showed through though with a well taken goal late in the first half. And despite their efforts and some fine individual performances, Willingdon added a further 3 goals, including a disputed offside-looking 4th. Late on, Fletching were able to salvage a consolation after some pushing in the box gave Pete the chance to score from the penalty spot.

Fletching could have few complaints with the result, Willingdon were a good side.
