Fletching 2nd 5 - 0 Wivelsfield Green 3rd

Fletching overcame strong opposition here with a solid performance.
Pre-match rumours among the crowd proved correct with the inclusion in the squad of two first team galacticos in the shape of Ian starting up front, and Adam Duly, brought in to run the line for much of the game. The fearsome combination of Ian and Dan up front soon proved too much for an overworked Wivelsfield defence, with Dowding opening the scoring after 10 minutes after a fine defence-splitting through ball from Benton. Dowding was evidently thrilled to have scored and soon repayed the favour, putting Benton through to score the first of what would become a hat-trick for the promising youngster. A third goal effectively made the game safe for Fletching with their solid defence proving hard to break down. Despite a dubious penalty awarded by a clearly confused referee and a strike cannoning off his crossbar, Darren Bradley managed to keep a 3rd consecutive clean sheet between the sticks. Later a julbilant Bradley was overheard boasting of his "unprecedented" achievement. Following the completion of Bentons hat-trick, a cooly taken goal, late substitute Toby Powell added a fifth with an unstoppable strike from inside the area, sending the crowd home deleriously happy. This was a comfortable win for Fletching who seem full of confidence for the remainder of a season which could yet see them promoted to the dizzying heights of division 8.
