Fletching 2 - 3 Uckfield 3rd

After the non-existent match between these two sides earlier in the season which saw Town awarded three points, The Archers were keen to prove their worth in what turned out to be a fiery derby match. With promotion still an outside possibility for Fletching it was important to get off to a good start and maintain their recent good form that the Fletching faithful have come to expect this season. However, a couple of weeks without a game certainly showed as Uckfield started the brighter and with only a few minutes on the clock took the lead with a classic counter attack after Davidson had narrowly missed at the other end. To their credit the villagers heads never dropped and with the defence grinding in hard, managed to keep the town attack at bay, whilst the midfield, including Roberts playing against his former club, started to link with Davidson and Burchett. An uncharacteristic loss of a fifty-fifty challenge by Funnell let Town in for their second of the game as the winger calmly lifted the ball over the oncoming ‘Minty’ Philips. Fletching’s never-say-die attitude was none more evident than in the second half at New Barn as the visitors took the game by the scruff of the neck, coming back to equalise. Firstly through the prolific Burchett and then soon after by Leeves with a superb finish. As both sides pressed on trying to find a winner the game became a more scrappy affair and tempers started to fray, with hard man Funnell lucky to get away with only a yellow card for a nasty tackle on their midfield general. A late goal by Uckfields young substitute heaped misery on Fletching who lost ground on the big three at the top of the table.
