Fletching 4 - 0 Burgess Hill Albion 3rd

The reserves went into this game brimming with confidence having suffered only two defeats in the previous ten games, and with the knowledge that a victory over the Hillians would result in an impressive record of having beaten every team below them in the league this season.

Right from the kick off, as Fletching looked to put a healthy eleven point gap between themselves and fourth placed Hill, young ‘Sinead’ Powell, who’s been in impressive form for the Archers recently, and his little side-kick Dan ‘The Dogger’ Benton created allsorts of problems for the Burgess Hill Defence. As in the reverse of this fixture earlier in the season though the game was a tight one with chances coming few and far between. The breakthrough came thanks to Benton’s pace and quick feet as he threaded a great ball into the box for Toby to hit first time with the sweetest of strikes which put the village one up.

The first half remained tightly contested, as the Archer’s solid defence restricted the Hillians front pairing to the odd chance. Fletching furthered their lead just before half time as the ball fell to the feet of midfield boss ‘Berries’ Hartup who swung his trusty left foot to hit a fine volley and give the Village a greater margin going into the break. The second half continued in much the same way as the first with the best of play coming from Fletching who by this time were enjoying themselves and playing some entertaining football which saw Powell calmly claim his second. Dicko scored a goal late on which capped another fine performance by the midfielder as the Village handed out a four-nil defeat to their nearest rivals.
