Fletching made the long trip to Roffey on the back of three straight defeats in as many games, despite this there was a positive air amongst both the management team and players, particular after some improving performances, how wrong they were to be though!
As has been the case this season, The Archers kept up their dismal record of conceding within the first fifteen minutes of the game, when Roffey tucked away a simple free kick past a unorganised defence with a little over only eight minutes on the clock. The hosts had clearly set out their stall and kept the visitors under constant pressure for the remainder of the half. The Horsham-based side looked an all round strong classy outfit, but were made to look good by some woeful defending and lack of imagination, as Roffey doubled their lead just before half time – a weak goal by Village standards.
Williams saw his side come out in much more respondent fashion for the second period, looking a much better team and showing some dogged fight, managing to work the keeper on occasions. But in truth it was all too late, the home side firmly in control. Still at 2-0 down after 60mins the Archers manager, Rhys Williams made a double substitution bringing on Marcus Barbe and Pete Burchett for Luke Donnelly and Frank Egleton in the hope that this would change Fletching’s fortunes in front of goal.
The game stayed at 2-0 until the seventieth minute when Roffey scored two quick fire break away efforts to double their lead and make the game safe. A change in formation from the visitors was all too late and the game as a contest, ended at that point with Fletching seemingly happy with hoofing the ball away and Roffey happy to retain possession. 4 – 0 the final result leaves Fletching rooting around the lower ends of the league with a lot to work on.
