The late kick off at Fletching was an encounter with Rotherfield 2nds. The 2nd had to follow up the great performance by the 1st earlier in the day. With 3 great wins and unbeaten run on the go, Clarky and Minty snr had a tough job against a supposed ‘ringer filled’ Rotherfield side.
The fame started brightly with many chances at both ends, Fletching coming close on several occasions. Then during a long 5 minute spell in the first half fletching won corner after corner after corner. When the 4th corner came in it was headed out and collected by Leeves and rifled a 25 yard shot in the top right hand corner, the keeper with absolutely no chance.
Fletching came back at Rotherfield straight away after the kick off and won the ball deep in their own half with a splendid ball down the line from Jefford into Newman who got past the despairing Rotherfield full back and slotted home past the keeper into the bottom left of the goal.
Fletching were still coming at Rotherfield with all guns blazing and another good spell of pressure with many more chances coming Fletchings way. Then Dowding won the ball in midfield took on several Rotherfield players and brushed them aside and finished with power and precision in the bottom of the goal. Rotherfield came back at the archers but were unable to break the deadlock. Fletching went into the break 3-0 up.
At the break Sol man was replaced by the sprightly Harris. Fletching started the 2nd half on the back foot slightly as Rotherfield came out the break full of energy after a big team talk from the gaffer. Rotherfield dominated possession for the first 20 minutes and were rewarded with a goal after the Rotherfield sub made a good run down the wing and put the ball into the area and after a mix up between Bradders and Dicko allowed the Rotherfield striker to poke home from all of 6 yards.
An injured Greg Dann was pulled off after 70 minutes and replaced by the not so sprightly Brady and Toby was taken off for Piers. On the back foot Fletching needed to score and both subs made an immediate impact with Brady playing the ball down the wing to Harris who crossed into the box and a mix up in the Rotherfield defence allowed Piers to place into the corner of the goal (just) from about 4 yards out.
Fletching got back into the goal scoring mood after a corner form Leeves came out the ruthless Burchett who finished a half volley with power into the bottom left of the goal. The game then came to a bit of a dull patch and when the ref blew the final whistle Fletching had won the game 5-1 with Dowding being named man of the match by the ref who had had a super afternoon.
