Village of Ditchling III 0 - 3 Fletching II

With last weeks disappointing cup exit to local rivals Uckfield put behind them, The Archers were free to concentrate on their league campaign as they travelled Ditchling.

On a tricky and testing pitch more suited to ski jumping, Carter switched to an unconventional 4-4-1-1 formation, giving himself a rare run out in the hole. From the outset Fletching were totally dominant throughout the game, creating chance after chance but failing to find a decisive goal. Luke ‘Y.T.S’ Donnelly continued to highlight his fast track development and justification for a starting place in senior football as he ran riot down the right hand side. The visitors finally made a breakthrough after player/manager Carter was taken out on the edge of the box. Eastoe looped in the resultant free kick where he found the impressive ‘Dicko’ Dickens who fired home a fine volley with textbook technique. The Archers went on to easily contain the hosts, Duly, Hill, Smith and Eastoe putting in another professional performance in what was highly experienced defensive line up, as Fletching had further good chances to double the lead but failed to convert - 1-0 at the break.

Carter was replaced on the hour, he went off to concentrate on his managerial duties, ‘Titch’ Barter the straight swap. It proved to be an inspired move, as the pint-size utility man left his marker for dead before firing in The Villagers second, in what was virtually one of his first touches of the game. Powell replaced a tired looking Donnelly and minutes later Clark came on to the left wing, after Eastoe received a kick in the face, Jefford showing his versatility to slot in at left back, as The Archers began to take their foot off the gas, stroking it around with a revered confidence and assured ability. Dickens went on to put the game beyond Ditchling, scoring from an acute angle for his second of the match to give Fletching the win in a fine away day.
