With the First Team game being cancelled a strong travelling contingent made the trip to Wivelsfield Green for an exciting second round cup match.
After recent downpours the pitch was in a terrible state and it was a surprise that the game went ahead. If Carters side were expecting a straightforward passage into round three against lower opposition they were to be very much mistaken. Green are riding high in Division Nine, currently top of the league and look a dead cert for promotion, and it was the hosts that demonstrated their fine league form against The Archers Division Eight side. That said the first half was fairly even, chances falling to either side as ‘Dogger’ Benton’s pace was casing real problems for the hosts, whilst the visitors failed to get to grips with Greens big man in the middle of the park. A mistake let in Green for the first before Fletching hit back just before half time when a quick throw from Barter found Carter who crossed for Dickens to slot home. Wivelsfield found time to take the lead though, as Fletching went in for the halftime team talk 2-1 down and with it all to do.
An attacking change saw Dowding, Greg Dann and Powell all come on at the interval. The Archers were probably the better side for the second forty-five and found a lifeline when Dickens converted his second of the match. Some tired legs began to show on a boggy pitch, Chris Hartup putting every ounce of energy in as slid through the centre on a number of occasions like a Tsunami, but this created gaps which Green tried exploited. The final ten minutes saw The Villagers pile forward, Dowding had a great chance to equalise, but wasted it as he shot narrowly wide and in the final few seconds Dickens could have taken it to extra time, but his effort found the post, as The Reserves bowed out of all cup competitions and are left to now concentrate on the league.
