With their mothers in support, Copthorne were confident of an easy victory and so were stunned following an electrifying start by young hot-shot Dan Benton as he scored a stunning individual opener, lobbing the keeper from at least 30 yards, shortly followed by a clinical second as he slotted home a cross.

Copthorne were reduced to childish petulance, with Mark Hill shoved off the ball as he marked their 70-goal-a-season striker effectively out of the game. A luckly strike midway through the second half gave Copthorne some hope and Fletchings hard work appeared to be for nothing as the referee awarded the home side a penalty. A timely intervention by big JC changed his mind and Fletching clung on for a historical victory surely to be long remembered. The young Copthorne team were furious to great amusement, they had been well beaten by a hard working Fletching side.
