Golf & Curry Night 2004

Fletching football clubs golf day got underway in extraordinary fashion last week as self-confessed loser Toby Powell silenced his detractors in some style, powering his way off the first tee to stunned silence. Toby was elated, but the smiles were not to last long. A downturn in his performance led to a terrible final score.

Elsewhere, newcomer Piers picked up the award for worst performance, but he just seemed pleased to be involved and certainly looked the part. Steve “Grip it and rip it” Cork powered his way into the record books with an immense shot to take longest drive. Best round went to Darren Wolvey, with Titch and Simon Lawrence also putting in notable performances. The best team award went to Chris Hyland, Titch, Greg Roberts and Clarkey. The next golf day will be eagerly awaited.

The Star of Bengal was the venue for the evenings curry, where a good time was had by all. The same cannot be said for the poker which followed, resulting in several big losers. Toby made up for his earlier failings by fleecing others out of money without having a clue about what he was doing (nothing unusual there - he works for Caffyns!). Keith Jenner was also a big money winner.
