Golf & BBQ Day

What a brilliant day we all had on Sunday June 13th (at least until about 10pm that night when England’s superstars blew a one goal lead to lose it in the 93rd minute!).The day started with a bacon sarnie and a photo call for all the keen golfers before we watched each other tee off at the first at Wellshurst golf club.Without mentioning any names, Sinead took at least twenty air shots (including launching the 3 iron onto the 18th green) before Mark spared his blushes and fired one safely down the fairway on his behalf. Our laughter had turned to pain and then sorrow for the poor lad. Fair play to him, he finished the round very well. The day very much belonged to Keith Jenner (he’s not even a Fletching player!). His best mate Wolvey had given him such a favourable handicap (18 my arse!!) that he won everything on the day; longest drive, nearest the pin, best stableford points. I bet if there was a biggest cock award he would have won that as well!!

Anyway, afterwards it was off to Sol towers for a swim and bbq, with the numbers swelled by the non-golfing fraternity and wives and girlfriends. Many beers were consumed and the food was served just in time to settle down and watch Sven’s boys take on the French in Euro 2004. Incidentally, now we know why Sven messed up those substitutions; he was texting Faria Alam back home – why else would you bring Heskey on for Rooney? Not to let the result get us down too much, we all enjoyed the maddest game of football (11-a-side in the garden!) at half time and also on the final whistle, to end what was a thoroughly fun packed day.
